Lighting is one of the most important components of your reef system. Photosynthetic corals and Tridacnid clams rely on you to supply enough light to produce the food needed to grow and thrive. Photosynthetic corals have a symbiotic relationship with Xoozanthellitic algae. The coral provides a safe home and nutrition for the algae and the algae provide the coral with carbohydrates; their primary source of food. The density and distribution of the algae within the coral is what gives it it's brilliant colour and greatly influences the corals growth.
