Why Do you need Proper Lighting for a Saltwater Reef Aquarium?

Photosynthetic corals and Tridacnid clams rely on you to supply enough light to produce the food needed to grow and thrive. Photosynthetic corals have a symbiotic relationship with Xoozanthellitic algae. The coral provides a safe home and nutrition for the algae and the algae provide the coral with carbohydrates; their primary source of food. The density and distribution of the algae within the coral is what gives them their brilliant colour and greatly influences the corals growth.

Why do you need Proper Lighting for a Freshwater Planted Aquarium?

Similar to corals, aquatic plants derive much of their daily nutrient through photosynthesis. When exposed to high quality light, aquatic plants will absorb carbon dioxide from the water and convert it to glucose and oxygen;  providing them with energy for growth and increasing the water quality for fish. Aquatic plants will increase the colouration of fish, provide them with hiding places and a source of food.
