Saltwater Fish: Worth the Extra TLC

It is fairly common knowledge that saltwater aquariums require a little bit more tender loving care to maintain than their freshwater counterparts. Saltwater enthusiasts, however, will tell you that it is so completely worth the extra effort! Tangs

“Tangs” may be a bit of a misnomer, because these beautiful little fish are built like “tanks.” In addition to being wonderful and pleasing to the eye, they are very resilient fish. You’ll find that, as a beginner in the world of saltwater aquarium maintenance, these fish are a godsend. We feature both Lavender Tangs as well as Sailfin Tangs at Aquarium Illusions! While normally very docile fish, there are occasions where Tangs can have tussles among themselves. Large groups of Tangs may not be a great idea.

Goby

Another fantastic pick for beginner saltwater-lovers are Goby, such as the Yellow Watchman Goby. These strangely beautiful fish are low-maintenance in regards to what they eat, and they are very popular, making them easy to find and care for. Like Tangs, they are usually quite docile around other species of fish, but can get a little territorial around other Gobies. 

Damselfish

These brightly-colored little fish thrive well in even smaller saltwater aquariums. Sometimes saltwater fish require large capacity tanks to be happy, but Damselfish can get along just fine in smaller environments. This little fish can be aggressive towards other fish, but as long as your aquarium design features lots of places for them to camp out, they should be just fine.

Clownfish

Thanks in part to Pixar Animation Studios, clownfish have received a bump in popularity over the last several years. Luckily, clownfish are pretty easy to take care of in your saltwater aquarium setup. Thanks to its popularity, there are plenty of easy-to-find resources for taking care of these fish. Their colorful markings stand out beautifully among the decorative features of aquariums, and they tend to be rather social fish.
