We’d like to take a few minutes to give you our list of the most impressive and inspiring aquariums from around the world that we could find in an effort to give you a creative boost for the new year. 2020 could be the year that you up your aquarium game! You might not have the multi-million dollar budget that some of these gigantic examples needed, but they can still spark some great ideas for your own aquarium. Be sure to contact Aquarium Illusions for any questions regarding aquarium decoration, design, and installation! Here is our list of the most amazing aquariums to inspire you in 2020:
The Aquadom
This is one of the most unique aquariums in the world. Located inside of the Radisson Hotel in Berlin, Germany, this huge aquarium called The Aquadom is over 80 feet high and is a hollow cylinder shape. The aquarium contains over 2,600 species of fish and even features an elevator that can be ridden up through the middle of the exhibit! If you’ve ever wanted to be surrounded by an aquarium on all sides, it might be worth the trip to Berlin just to see this marvel of engineering.
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
Located in Shanghai, China, the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in all of Asia. This exhibit boasts a nearly 1 million gallon water capacity and is divided into sections that reflect the inhabitants of different oceans around the world. The most famous attraction, however, is the longest underwater tunnel in the world! You can take a stroll through an aquarium tunnel that stretches to over 500 feet in length! It is safe to say that this sort of feature might be a little out of most people’s budget for in-house aquariums, so we recommend just enjoying this one in Shanghai, should you ever get the opportunity.
The National Aquarium
Baltimore, Maryland, is home to The National Aquarium, one of the most comprehensive aquariums in the country and recipient of over 1.5 million annual visitors. This national treasure is home to over 16,000 individual specimens, including sharks, jellyfish, dolphins, octopus, as well as a rainforest terrarium exhibit! The coral reefs alone are worth the price of admission, but you’ll get to see some of the largest exhibits of sea life from around the globe. If you find yourself on the American East Coast, aquarium enthusiasts would be remiss if they skipped out on the National Aquarium.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Located in beautiful Monterey, California, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has some very interesting characteristics that are unique. One of its water tanks, for example, contains over 1.2 million gallons of water and features one of the largest single-paned windows on the planet! This incredible, unobstructed window has to be seen to be believed. If you plan on having a Californian vacation, make it a point to stop in Monterey! Aquarium enthusiasts and hobbyists will absolutely love the immersion that is available at this aquatic exhibit.
Dubai Mall Aquarium
Dubai really has taken the idea of “go big or go home” to heart. Already home to the tallest building on Earth, the Burj Khalifa, and the biggest mall on the planet, the Dubai Mall. As if that wasn’t enough, the biggest mall in the world houses one of the largest aquariums in the world as well, the Dubai Mall Aquarium. With over 33,000 specimens and the world’s largest acrylic glass panel, if you’re ever fortunate enough (or rich enough) to be in Dubai, explore this wonder, and let us know how it was!
Georgia Aquarium
Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world. You can enjoy a gargantuan water tank that boasts a 6.3 million gallon capacity, as well experience one of the only exhibits in the world that features whale sharks. The conservation efforts that this aquarium supports are also to be praised, having raised millions of dollars to fund marine wildlife preservation efforts. In our opinion, the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta needs to be number one on your aquarium enthusiast bucket list!
